Audie Mae Garrett-Austin, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at the age of 99 years. Born on December 17, 1925, in Calhoun County, Mississippi to Collier Robie and Esther Lee Barefield Penion. She worked diligently as a factory worker in the glove factory and later at Glen Slacks in Bruce, Mississippi. Her career was marked by hard work and dedication, as she also spent many years caring for others, providing house cleaning services, and acting as a compassionate caregiver to those in need.

Audie Mae was first married to the father of her children, Clyde Eugene Garrett, until his passing and then to her second husband, Linel Cortet Austin. She is survived by her sons, Billy Garrett of Hernando, MS, Larry Garrett and daughter in law Beverly Garrett of Morrison, TN, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her incredible voice as a gospel music alto. Audie Mae had a passion for quilting and was regarded as a master seamstress, bringing beauty to both fabric and flower. Her love for gardening blossomed especially in her later years, where she found joy in nurturing her beloved plants and flowers, tending to them with the same care she showed to her family and friends.

Audie Mae's legacy is one of hard work, nurturing, and a joyful spirit that touched the lives of many. She was a true embodiment of love, laughter, and dedication, and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

A public viewing will be held on September 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM with Bro. Sam Yarbrough officiating, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her remarkable life. She will be laid to rest in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Vardaman, Mississippi.

Pallbearers for the service will include Max Nichols, Larry Swanson, Randy Davis, Carey Carnathan, along with two grandsons, Michael Garrett and Josh Garrett who held Audie Mae dear to their hearts.

As we gather to honor Audie Mae Garrett-Austin, we invite you to share your memories, your laughter, and your stories of a woman who lived a life of grace and love. Her memory will continue to inspire all of us as we celebrate her journey and the warmth she brought to our lives.
