Barbara Swanson

Barbara Ruth Tutor Swanson, 75, of Pittsboro departed from this life on Friday, January 5, 2024, at her home. She was born on May 7, 1948 in Calhoun County to the late Elvis Mitchell Tutor and Vernice Gregory Tutor.

Barbara loved to work. She enjoyed her family and friends. She loved her lilies and her garden. She fed a lot of people out of her garden. She loved to cook- and, boy could she. Her and her husband, Earl worked together as a team for 59 years. She served the Lord at the Bruce Church of Christ where she was a member for many, many years. If there are gardens in heaven her and her mother, Vernice are getting it rowed up for spring planting. Barbara survived a lot the last year. She was a fighter and put up a good fight. We all know when she got to heaven the good Lord let her eat turnip greens, cornbread, and an onion.

She leaves behind her husband, Earl Swanson of Pittsboro; son, Michael (Karen) Swanson of Pittsboro; three sisters: Frances Morris; Sarah McGreger; Gaye Williams; granddaughter, Katelyn Nicole Swanson.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Elvis Mitchell Tutor and Vernice Gregory Tutor; daughter, Wendy Swanson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. The funeral service honoring Barbara's life will take place on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Brother Bo Perrin officiating. Andy Ball, Jason Dye, J.D. Langford, Jeff McGreger, Roger Poynor, and Roger Swanson will carry Barbara to rest in Rocky Mt. Cemetery. Hunter Mize and Mickey Swanson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
