Binnie Gerald Thompson

Binnie Gerald Thompson, 81, passed away on February 23, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North MS, in Oxford, MS.

Binnie was born on April 5, 1942, in the Pine Valley Community to the late Herman and Floy Mae Thompson. He was a 1961 graduate of Bruce High School and served his country in the National Guard. He married Ruby Baker on June 1, 1962.

Binnie held many jobs during his career. He worked at Columbia Gulf, Memphis Hardwood, and Kellwood.  He was working as a carpenter when he decided to enter the political arena and run for Supervisor of District 3, a position he held from 1988 until his retirement in 2008. While serving as supervisor he also continued to farm and was a well-known cattleman and pork producer.  He loved to bird hunt.   Binnie was a helper and a servant to many people.  He served his church, Banner Baptist Church as a deacon.

Binnie is survived by his wife Ruby Baker Thompson, of Bruce, MS; daughter Donna (Tim) Carr, of Pangburn, AR; son Gerald (Lisa) Thompson, of Bruce, MS; sister Wanda Harrison, of Big Creek, MS; brother Joe Thompson, of Nesbit, MS; grandchildren Tyler Gardner and Stormy Thompson; and one great grandson on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Floy Mae Thompson, sister Margaret Thompson, and brother Billy Thompson.

Visitation for Binnie Thompson will be Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. The funeral service for Binnie will be on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Bro. Darrell Logan officiating and Bro. Kevin Smith assisting.  Burial will follow in Banner Cemetery with Carlton Baker, Danny Baker, Murry Baker, Randy Baker, Benny Stewart, and Chad Stewart serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Glass, Chris Shelton, and Tom Weeks.
