Calvin Barnett

Enix Calvin Barnett Junior, 73, of Vardaman departed from this life on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at his home. Born on August 7, 1948, in Houston, he was a son to the late Enix Calvin Barnett and Elizabeth Virginia Kelly Barnett.

Calvin was best known for his career in law enforcement that spanned over four decades. During his tenure of serving and protecting he wore a variety of hats such as: Vardaman Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, officer for the Mississippi Department of Transportation, and Calhoun County Constable. Aside from being the long arm of the law Calvin lived upon the level and by the square as a member of the Vardaman Masonic Lodge. With a love for the great outdoors he could be found not only tending to his beloved garden but also his yard. However, when Calvin wanted to get away from the fast pace of life he simply trekked through the woods in pursuit of a good day deer hunting. Above all his hobbies and interest he cherished the valued relationships with family and friends, especially the friendship he developed with Kenny Scott. Although Calvin has departed from our lives, his treasured memory will hold a special place in the hearts of his loved ones.

He leaves behind a loving family to continue walking down the path of life in his absence, three daughters: Renea (Scott) Kahl of Mendenhall; Sondra (Jessie) Welch of Big Creek; and Bridgette Frierson of Oxford; eight grandchildren: Andy Kahl, Luke Kahl, Dylan Kahl, Santana Parker, Kiefer Dee Hood, Deslyn Frierson, Emily Frierson, and Jaylen Frierson; three great grandchildren: Harper Kahl, Chandler Kahl, and Nathan Kahl; two brothers: Joe Kelly (Judy) Barnett and Kenneth (Rose) Barnett; four sisters: Patricia (Charles) Tull; Carolyn (Jerry) Tharp; Brenda Kaye (Rob) Thompson; and Nelda Joyce (Johnny) Whitt.

The family receive friends on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman. The funeral service honoring remembering Calvin’s life will take place on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home, Vardaman with Bro. Johnny Cherry officiating. Jody Alford, Eric Allen, Jack Clark, Andy Harmon, Jason McNeese, Kenneth Scott, Kenny Scott, and Dewayne Winter will carry him to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery.  James Marshall Casey, Mark Hendrix, and Benny Langford will serve as honorary pallbearers.
