Mr. Charles Edward Hollis, 93 of Vardaman, Mississippi died on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Born Friday, June 2, 1922 in Vardaman, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Berry Frank Hollis and the late Sarah Blue Hollis. He was the husband of the late Lucy Couch Hollis.
He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. as a Flight Engineer on B-24 Bombers. He attended Mississippi State University Industrial Engineering program under the GI bill. Charles and his wife Lucy owned and operated Vardaman Feed Mill. Latter he taught various Industrial arts programs throughout the state of Mississippi.
He was a Deacon of Vardaman First Baptist Church where he was elected deacon emeritus on April 19, 2015.
Charles was very community minded and served in Vardaman Boy Scout Troop, Gideon's International, Mississippi Republican Party ,As a part of his outreach he went on Mission trips in United States and Mexico ,Being civic minded he served various clubs and associations throughout his life.
Survivors are sons, Jerry (Linda) Hollis of Senatobia, MS, Marshall Earl Hollis of Ripley, MS, Phillip Couch (Mary Ellen) Hollis of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Freddy Charles (Donna) Hollis of Jackson, MS, Sister, Mallie Skinner of Vardaman, MS; 13 grand children; 13 great grand children.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Franklin Hollis, Sr. and Clyde Hollis, Sisters, Lora Evans and Flora Calder and Leila Putnum.
A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday at Vardaman First Baptist Church with the Bro. Archie Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in New Liberty Cemetery, Vardaman, MS.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home, Vardaman, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be: Active Deacons of Vardaman First Baptist Church.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Inactive Deacons Of Vardaman First Baptist Church
