Clardis Dean Bennett, 74, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, April 6, 2016, at the Sanctuary Hospice Home in Tupelo, MS. He was born on April 6, 1942, in Calhoun County to Raymond Bennett and Lillian Ferguson Bennett. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bruce, Mississippi. Clardis was known to many as simply CD, Bungles, and Unk.
Clardis was a gifted and self-taught carpenter, electrician, and plumber. He began working in this field as a young man, building many homes in and around Calhoun County. He ended his career working with his oldest son, Dean, until his health forced him to retire. When he wasn’t building houses, you could find him tinkering in his woodshop building furniture, grandfather clocks, and jewelry cases for his beloved pocket watches. He served his country in the National Guard for six years. He loved visiting with friends and family and especially talking about civil war history of Calhoun County. He loved to trade and go to trade days. He was an active member of the Calhoun County Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Above all, his greatest love was his three granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 9, 2016 at 2:00 P.M., Parker Memorial Funeral Home, Bruce, Mississippi, with Brother Kevin Chrestman officiating and Brother James Taylor assisting. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday April 8, 2016. Burial will be at the Poplar Springs Cemetery. He is survived by his son, Dean Bennett and wife Jennifer; granddaughters, Juliauna Christeen, Jacey Lauren, and Lillian Kathleen Bennett; brother, Charles Bennett and wife Frances; sisters, Nancy Barefield and husband Smokey, and Renee Hardy of Bruce, and Kathy Davis and husband Teddy of Louisville, MS; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; his son, Lawrence Joseph Bennett; and two brothers, RL Bennett of Bruce, Mississippi, and Billy Bennett of Greenville, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Bennett, Joe Bennett, Ronnie Bennett, Teddy Davis, Glen Brown, Brian Allen Long, Bubba Hollingsworth, and Benny Barefield.
