DR Barefield

DR Barefield of Bruce, MS passed away on November 6, 2026 at North Mississippi Medical Center. DR was born to Hubert and Myrtle Barefield on February 29, 1940, in the Sarepta Community in Mississippi.

DR served in the Mississippi National Guard during the challenging times of the Cuban Missile Crisis. He graduated from Bruce High School in the class of 1958 and enjoyed a fulfilling career as an equipment operator. As the owner of DR Barefield Contracting Inc., he was known for his skill and dedication to his work, particularly with a dozer, which he operated with passion and precision.

DR was a member of Old Field Methodist Church and found great joy in the outdoors, relishing every opportunity to connect with nature. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, often saying, "Oh, that'll do."

In the past year, DR faced the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Kay. Despite this difficult time, he continued to live a good and active life until the final weeks. He is survived by his son, Jason Morris (Jessica) Barefield of Bruce, MS; his daughter, Demeka Kay (Jason) Church of Franklin, TN; and four beloved grandchildren: Lucy Rae Barefield, Sullie Grace Barefield, Samantha Lucille Church, and Greyson Hubert Church.

A visitation will be held at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce, MS on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Old Field Cemetery at 2:30 PM with Bro. Craig McCormick officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Benny Barefield, Hunter Barefield, Greyson Church, Dennis Dorris, Rocky Fleming, and Cody Weeks. Honorary pallbearers will be George Edward Liles, Donny Logan, Buddy Longest, and Benny Stewart.

DR was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara "Kay" Barefield; his father, Hubert Wayne Barefield; and his mother, Myrtle Sartin Barefield.
