Dr.Edna Earl Edwards

Dr. Edna Earl Edwards, 91, departed from this life on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford, MS. She was born on March 27, 1931, in Calhoun County to the late Lee Estil Edwards and Edna Collins Edwards.

After graduating high school Edna continued her education at Holmes Junior College where she was known as a star basketball player. Upon completing her time as Holmes, she traveled south to Hattiesburg and enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi where she completed the requirements to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree. She understood the value of education and never stopped learning and pursuing new knowledge Throughout her lifetime, Edna earned not only a Master of Arts degree from the University of Mississippi but also the highest possible academic degree, a Doctor of Philosophy from Florida State University. Edna began her career molding young minds at Aberdeen High School, a place where she shared knowledge in the classroom and coached skills on the basketball court to junior high and high school girls. After many years of teaching high school, she migrated to the court of higher education and begin instructing students at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College. The days at Copiah-Lincoln ended after Edna took on the role of professor at Texas Tech University. Finally, she joined the faculty at the University of West Georgia where spent many decades as an English and Education professor. Upon retiring and moving back to North Mississippi, she found the time to watch basketball and grow spiritually at North Oxford Baptist Church.  Although she has departed from our presence, she has gone to rest in a place free of sickness and the pains of age.

She leaves behind a loving family to continue walking down the path of life in her absence; sister, Glenda Edwards of Bruce, Mississippi; two brothers: Douglas (Dale) Edwards of Southaven, Mississippi; Donald Edwards of Bruce, Mississippi

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Estil Edwards and Edna Collins Edwards; two sisters: Katherine Stewart and Eloise Waters.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce, MS. The funeral service honoring Edna's life will take place on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Bro. Christopher Curry officiating. Larry Collins, Scott Collins, Doug Edwards, Jr., John Ree Edwards, David Stewart, and Brad Rowland will carry Edna to rest in Bruce Cemetery.
