Duane "Speck" Poynor, age 72, passed away on September 13, 2026, at his home in Big Creek, MS. Born on May 2, 1954, in Forest, MS, Speck was the son of the late Lance and Tressie Poynor.
After attending Calhoun City High School, Speck became a jack of all trades, working various jobs, such as a truck driver, a small engine repairman, and working on the riverboat. Whether selling produce in the area-especially watermelons-as the beloved "produce man," or collecting items he found value in, such as cars, cast iron, and watches, Speck always sought opportunities to engage with others.
Speck was a proud member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, joining at the age of 16. His faith and love for music were intertwined, with his favorite song, "Yard Sale," being a constant companion. He enjoyed listening to music and attending Sunday school at Cedar Hill, where he found community and connection.
Speck is survived by his wife, Carol Addy Poynor of Little Rock, MS; his daughters, Rhonda Lou Poynor of Bruce, MS and Tracy Lynn (Brandon) Carpenter of Cleveland, MS; his son, Randy "Bubba" Poynor of Coffeeville, MS; his stepson, Earl Massey of Little Rock, MS; his sisters, Sue Martin and Minnie Belle Winters, both of Big Creek, MS; his brother, David (Lisa) Poynor of Big Creek, MS; along with ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. His love for family and friends was evident in the way he always tried to help anyone in need.
Visitation will be held at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
