COLUMBUS, MS - Elizabeth Edmondson Gilder, 98 years old, died Friday, July 25, 2025 at
the Windsor Nursing Home, Columbus, MS. She was born November 8, 1926 in Woodland,
MS. A graduate of Vardaman High School, she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees
from Mississippi State University in education and counseling. She was a retired high school
teacher and counselor from the Los Angeles City, California school district with a 31-year
career. She was known as a kind and generous person as well as an outstanding cook and
seamstress. She is loved and remembered by a wide circle of friends, family, former colleagues
and students.
Services will be at Parker Memorial Funeral Home chapel in Vardaman, MS.
She is survived by her three children, Dr. Jamison Gilder Hoff (Dr. Nicholas Hoff) of Hollis NH,
Lynne Gilder Hartel of Pawleys Island, SC, Dr. Earl Edmondson Gilder (Edith Gilder) of Medford,
OR; four grandchildren, Dr. Nicholas Hoff III (Dr. Sabine Hoff), Alexander Hoff, Dr. Thomas
Gilder (Dr Hannah Gale), Dr. Hannah Gilder; and two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Clara
Hoff. She is also survived by her sister Dot Wiggs and brothers Martin Edmondson and Carter
Edmondson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Thomas Earl Gilder, her parents
Thomas Moore Edmondson and Thelma Faulkner Edmondson, brothers J.W. Edmondson,
James Thomas Edmondson, sisters Margaret Sprouse, Katie Havens, and Peggy Wicker.
Visitation will be from 10-11AM Aug 1st with service to follow at the Funeral home chapel.
Serving as pallbearers will be Alex Hoff, Dr. Thomas Gilder, Dr. Henry Edmondson, Jerry Harris, Jim Hamilton, and Tim Jack Edmondson. Honorary pallbearers will include Dr. Hannah Gilder and Carter Edmondson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Midway Baptist Church, P.O. Box 72,
Vardaman, MS 38878.
