Eva Nell Covington, who departed this life on July 17, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on April 2, 1947, in Isola, Mississippi, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, she resided in Oakland, Mississippi, where she shared her warmth and kindness with her community.
Eva was a certified nursing assistant, dedicating herself to caring for others and supporting those in need. She was driven by her passion for helping people and touching their lives in meaningful ways. A proud member of the Hosanna Family Worship Center, Eva cherished her church activities and found joy in the bonds she created with fellow worshippers. As a true people person, she loved everyone and was known for her vibrant spirit and loving heart.
Eva leaves behind a legacy of love through her family. She is survived by her daughter, Jerrie (Leonard) Cameron of Grain Valley, MO; sons, James (Rhonda) Thompson of Brandon, MS and David Staggs of Oakland, MS; along with her cherished grandchildren, Jesse (Jessica) Cameron, Savanna (Josh) Creason, Robyn (Chuck) Stevens, Jessica (Dennis) Thompson, David (Brianna) Staggs II, Brandi (Josh) Cameron, and Leonard (Ezra) Cameron II. She also leaves behind her twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored, sister, Ann Earwood of Florence, MS; brother, Charlie (Donna) Jones of Kilmichael, MS; step-daughters, Mitzie (Danny) Harris and LaNora (Pete) Yasko, both of whom are of Hernando, MS; and step-son Paul (Christy) Covington of Hernando, MS.
The family will receive friends and family for a public viewing at the Hosanna Family Worship Center in Pope, MS on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service to honor Eva's life at 3:00 PM with Bro. Dammon Plummer officiating. She will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery following the service. Serving as pallbearers are Josh Bartels, Jesse Cameron, Leonard Cameron II, Josh Creason, Will Jones, and David Staggs II.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Ray Covington; father, John D. Jones; mother, Bertha Mathis Poole; sisters, Betty Canoy and Irene Jones; and brothers, Doyle Jones, Chester Jones, Ricky Jones, and Johnny Jones.
The staff of Parker Memorial Funeral Home is honored to serve the Covington family as they walk through this season of loss. We ask that you keep them, in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn the passing of their loved one.
