Faye Moorhead Davis

Faye Moorhead Davis, 87, of Bruce, Mississippi, passed away on September 9, 2022, after a brief illness.

Faye was born on October 14, 1934, to the late Julious and Bessie Steed Moorhead of Bruce, MS.

Faye graduated from Bruce High School and attended East Mississippi Community College, before going on to study education at Memphis State University, in Memphis, TN. After graduating with her Bachelor’s degree, she began teaching in the Memphis City School System where she retired in early 2000 after teaching third grade elementary children for 35 years. She also greatly assisted her husband and son in the growth of their firm, Davis Engineering Company, Inc.

On February 21, 1953, Faye married Billy L. Davis in Bruce. Faye and Bill went on to have two children: Frankie and Mark.

After retirement Faye and Bill returned home to their beloved hometown of Bruce. They spent many years at their cabin and property working on various hobbies, including gardening and spending times outdoors. They loved entertaining family and friends at their cabin. Returning to their hometown and reconnecting with many old friends and family gave Faye immense joy.

Faye never met a stranger and when you met her, Faye was instantly your best friend. She had a quick wit, and her laugh was infectious. She loved her family, church family, along with all of her wonderful neighbors.

Faye is predeceased in death by husband Billy Davis; daughter Frankie Davis Albright; brother Jerry Moorhead and her parents Julious and Bessie Steed Moorhead. She is survived by her son Mark Davis (Liz); son-in- law Gary Albright; sister-in-law Brenda Leachman Moorhead; nephew Tony Ruth (Annette); and nephew William Ruth (Kay).

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Emily Winter (Ron); Conner Davis (Mary Katherine); Tyler Davis; and Jonathan Albright (Emma). She was also a great-grandmother to 5 beautiful great-grandchildren. One of Faye’s biggest joys was getting to visit or FaceTime with them all, which she loved doing dearly.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Children’s Ministry of First Baptist Church Bruce, P.O. Box 535, Bruce, MS 38915 to continue her lifework of improving children’s lives through education.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Logan officiating and Bro. Ryan Reed assisting. Burial will follow in Bruce Cemetery with Jonathan Albright, Tanner Allen, Conner Davis, Tyler Davis, William Ruth, Ron Winter, and Dr. Mike Young carrying Ms. Faye to her final resting place. Hunter Cray, Robert Denley and Tony Ruth are honorary pallbearers. A reception will follow the services at 113 County Road 259, Bruce, MS 38915 at The Cabin at Brookwood (formerly The Retreat at Turkey Lake)
