Frederick Rowland Smith

Frederick Rowland Smith, 79, of Bruce, departed from this life on Friday, December 9, 2022, at his home in Bruce, MS. He was born on February 05, 1943, in Charleston, MS to the late Lloyd W. Smith and Ola Williams Smith.

Rowland graduated from Batesville High School class of 1960. He then attended Northwest Junior College and later attended Charleston Southern Senior College earning a B.A degree. Rowland was in the United States Navy for 20 years until his retirement in 1982 as an E7- HMC Chief. He continued working in the medical field for 23 years later retiring from Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. Rowland was of the Protestant Faith.

He leaves behind a loving family to continue walking down the path of life in his absence: wife, June Box Smith of Bruce; daughter, Misty (Shane) Goodson of Bruce; four sons: Douglas G. Smith of Bruce; Brent E. (Leah) Smith of Greig, NY; Randy J.(Stacy) Smith of Bruce; Shawn T. Shepard of Bruce;  brother, C. Gordon (Carol) Smith, Hot Springs, AR; 13 grandchildren: Savannah (Benjamin) Baker, Jaden Beth Smith, Blue Smith, Stephanie Heiderich, Sharissa Smith, Mitchell Smith, Brandon Smith, Forrest Hamilton, Hudson Hamilton, Sydney Stephan, Keegan Barfield, Sarah Erwin, and Sophia Shepard; five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd W. Smith and Ola Williams Smith; stepmother, Brownye Garrett Smith; his first wife and the mother to his sons Gayle McCormick Smith, two brothers: Lloyd W. Smith, Jr.; Raymond C.  Smith; stepbrother, Billy C. Hodges.
