rd
, 1948 in Bruce to E.Q. Bullard and Vesta Malone Bullard.
A member of Bruce High School’s Graduating Class of 1965, Gayle would continue his education at Ole Miss, receiving a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry class of 1969. This would lead to an accomplished and rewarding career. After serving as a School Teacher early on, he would later become a Timber Buyer and Cruiser for Quality Forest Products and Abbeville Timber and Forestry. Other titles earned included being a Farmer and and a Private Pilot.
One of Gayle’s passions in life was serving as a volunteer with the Pittsboro Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a charter member. As a testament to that passion of service, Gayle would spend a total of 42 years as Chief. Service to others continued as a devoted member of Pittsboro Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon from 1987 through 2018; Young Adult Sunday School Teacher from 1983 through 2018; and as Music Director from 1998 through 2018. Being devoted to his family and their activities, he also enjoyed sports, duck hunting, gardening, and auctions. There are many people left behind, both family and friends, whose lives Gayle touched through all of those passions and devotions. He will be missed by all of them.
Gayle leaves behind his wife of over 50 years, Reda Franklin Bullard of Pittsboro; Son Douglas (Lisa) Bullard of Calhoun City; Daughters Emily Bullard of Pittsboro and Mary (P.K.) Edmonson of Vardaman; Brothers Paul (Lavenia) Bullard of Brandon and Fred (Debbie) Bullard of Pittsboro; Sisters Ellen (E.J.) Spratlin of Hot Springs, AR and Hilda (Bob) Hill of Merigold; Grandchildren Reed (Jodie) Gregory, Jamie (Jeremy) Criddle, Laura McGreger, Lennon McGreger, Avery Bullard, Molly Edmonson, and Eli Edmonson; Great-Grandchild Hadley Criddle; Mother-in-law Minnie Franklin of Pittsboro; Brothers-in-law Jimmie (Nonie) Franklin of Pittsboro and Heath (DeeAnn) Franklin of Pittsboro; and special Cousin, Bill (Suzette) Malone.
There will be a visitation with the family on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Pittsboro Baptist Church beginning from Noon until 2:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating Gayle’s life will immediately follow visitation at 2:00 PM at the church, with Dr. Daniel Hathorne and Brother Vincent Anderson officiating.
Gayle will be laid to rest in Pittsboro Cemetery following services. Serving as Pallbearers will be members of the Pittsboro Fire Department. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Bynum, Ricky Jackson, Mike McKibben, Tim Sparks, and the Deacons of Pittsboro Baptist Church.
Gayle was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, and his Father-in-law J.W. Franklin.
