Gerald Wayne Brown, 62, of Vicksburg, and formerly of Coffeeville, Jackson, and Vaiden, Mississippi, died peacefully in the company of friends and family at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans on July 15, 2017.
Jerry, J. B., or Jerry Brown, as he was fondly known, had undergone a lung transplant on March 19 at Ochsner.
Born on April 2, 1955 in Cleveland, Mississippi. He attended the School for the Blind in Jackson, Mathiston High School, Wood Junior College, where he was voted Most Intellectual, and Mississippi State University.
Jerry was a Lions Club member, a Ham radio operator and participated in a number of bicycle marathons for charities.
He was known for his quick wit, his concern for others, sense of humor, his love of gardening and of nature and his optimism. He loved music and reading. He had many adventures, some happy, some hard.
Jerry is predeceased by his father, Burrell Newberry Brown II, of Vaiden.
He is survived by his mother Opal Turner Brown of Vaiden, brother Burrell Brown III of Ocean Springs, Mike Brown of Atlanta, Tim Brown of Asheville, NC, sister Rachel Brown Bolick of Vaiden, and many adoring nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service honoring Jerry's Life will be held at Midway Methodist Church in Vaiden, MS. on Saturday July 29, at 2:00 with Bro. Finis Beuchamp officiating visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, Jerry has requested that donations be made to the pulmonary fibrosis foundation (888–733–6741 ) or the Mississippi Council for the Blind (601–982–1713 )
