Grace Byars

Charlie Grace Hardin Byars of Hernando, MS formerly of Calhoun City departed from this life on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Wesley Meadows Retirement Community in Hernando. She was born on February 21, 1926 in Derma, MS to the late Hartwell Henry Hardin and Molly Susie Rhodes Hardin.

She was a graduate of Derma High School. Grace was a devoted member of Lewis Memorial Methodist Church and the Harrison Moore Sunday School Class until she moved to Hernando. She was a previous member of the Grenada Exchangettes and the Twentieth Century Club. When she wasn't volunteering or attending club meeting Grace enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting. While living in Sentatobia, MS Grace enjoyed volunteer work as pink lady at the hospital. Although she has departed from our presence, Grace’s memory will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are one son Major "Bill" Jr. (Linda) Byars of Columbus, MS; one daughter Betty Jane (Robert) Smith of Hernando, MS; four grandchildren: Robert Lewis Smith III, Melinda Byars Meyer, Lisa Byars Schleder, and Tara Rose (Joel) Greenwood and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband William ''Bill" Strain Byars; her parents Henry Hartwell Hardin and Molly Susie Rhodes Hardin; a daughter Martha Byars Crumby.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce. The funeral service celebrating Grace’s life will take place on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 1:30 PM in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Bro. Scott Wright officiating. Keegan Alexander, Bill Byars Jr., Joel Greenwood, Peyton Greenwood, Josh Miller, and Robert Lewis Smith III will carry Grace to rest in Pittsboro Cemetery.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff members of Wesley Meadows that offered mother a kind word, a loving hug, and a gracious smile. Also a very special thank you to her precious friends Libby, Mary, Jo, and Sybil.
