Helen Joan Mumma, 85 passed away October 26, 2017 at Baptist Nursing Center, Calhoun City, MS after an extended illness. She was born April 8, 1932 in Bruce, Mississippi to the late parents of Luther Thomas Gahagan and Amy Gertrude Deaton Gahagan. She was a homemaker and in her earlier years worked for the F.B.I. in special services. Joan was a member of Bruce United Methodist Church. She enjoyed life to the fullest being a joke or just having a good time telling a funny tale to get a laugh.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Tommy Gahagan, three sisters, Nell Parker, Jeraldine Wooten and Willodene Whittimore.
Survivors are her daughter, Jonni Bumgart “Jasper Lewis”, Calhoun City, MS; a brother, Paul Gahagan “Ann”, Bartlett, TN; a granddaughter, Sara Mann “Rod”., Big Creek, MS; six great grandchildren, Brianna Brickey, Ashtan Mann, Tanor Mann, Miriam Wells, Jordan Wells and Braves Wells.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the funeral to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Bruce Cemetery. Paul Gahagan will deliver the eulogy.
Pallbearers are Jasper Bumgart, Brysom Bramlett, Michael Gahagan, Ashton Mann, Tanor Mann, Rod Wells and Benny Joe Parker.
