Howard Smith, 78, passed away after an extended illness Saturday, January 26, 2019 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Bruce, MS on May 10, 1940. He was a 1958 member of graduating class of Calhoun City. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy 1962-1966, and served in the Vietnam War. He had a long career with Heatcraft of Grenada and retired after 37 years as the Customer Service Supervisor.

Howard enjoyed working with his hands and was skilled in many areas: carpentry, mechanics, electrical, woodworking, carving and making beautiful clocks. He loved gardening and made a huge garden every year to share with others. He could fix most anything and was a perfectionist in all he did. He loved discussing religion and spent a lot of time to audio tapes of the Bible.

Services will be held at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce on Tuesday, January 29 th at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Cheryl Carter will give the eulogy. Pallbearers are Matt Carter, Tyson Carter, Zach Carter, Stephen Curtis, Larry Embry, and David Newman. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Memory Memorial Garden.

Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Linda Ivy Smith; son, Glen (Christie) Smith of Derma; daughter, Cheryl (Matt) Carter of Waterloo, Canada; granddaughter, Jennifer Baker of Calhoun City; grandsons, Zach Carter and Tyson Carter; great grandchildren, Chalyn and Bryson Baker; god daughter, Tonia Kern, Burlington, WA; a sister, Shirley Curtis (Jack) of Derma and dear friends, Doug and Carolyn Moncrief of Jacksonville, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Udis and Vance Smith.

The family would like to thank the staff of Baptist Memorial Hospice for their care the last few months of his life.
