James Britten Gordon

James Britten Gordon, 82, of Vardaman, departed from this life on Wednesday, October 04, 2023, at his home in Vardaman. Born on August 17, 1941, in Vardaman to Henry Britten Gordon and Opal Maynette Langston Gordon.

James dedicated his life to serving in the United States Army, where he faithfully served for 24 years, attaining the rank of First Sergeant (1SG). His commitment and dedication to his country were unwavering, earning him the utmost respect from his comrades and superiors alike. His discharge rank was E8. James served his country in the Vietnam War. He found joy in tending to his garden, spending time, and cherishing moments with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed reading and watching the news and westerns. James was a member of Midway Baptist Church.

He leaves behind his wife, Lori Ann Gordon of Vardaman; mother, Opal Gordon of Houston; two daughters: Linda Gail Haire of Vardaman; Melissa Ann Aitkins of Oklahoma; three sons: Roy Ernest Gordon of Bruce; Robert Mitchell Gordon of Oklahoma; Tommy Alton Gordon of Florida; sister, Linda Kay Wiggs of Vardaman; brother, T.C. "Bud" Gordon of Vardaman; sixteen grandchildren: Lisa Colburn, Ashley Boyd, Tara Stroud, Christian Gordon, Dalton Gordon, Corbin Gordon, Britten Haire, Abigail Haire, Briley Gordon, Bradley Gordon, Bethany Gordon, Madison Gordon, Thomas Gordon, Jr.; Connor Gordon, Cordelia Aitkins, and Liam Aitkins. He also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Gordon; son, Tommy Britten.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 08, 2023, from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at Midway Baptist Church. The funeral service honoring James' life will take place on Sunday, October 08, 2023, at 3:00 P.M. at Midway Baptist Church with Bro. Parrish Hartley and Bro. Jim Varnon officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Bradley Gordon, Briley Gordon, Christian Gordon, Corbin Gordon, Dalton Gordon, Britten Haire will serve as pallbearers Robert Wiggs, T.C. Gordon, Joe Hood, Dean Tilley, Liam Aitkins, Connor Gordon and Thomas Gordon, Jr. will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
