James "Marcell" Poynor

James Marcell Poynor, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, was born on May 13, 1960, in Bruce, Mississippi . He passed away on August 1, 2025 at his home in Water Valley, MS.

Marcell was a man of many passions. He dedicated his career to the landscaping industry as a self-employed lawn care maintenance expert, nurturing the beauty of gardens. His hands not only worked the soil but also crafted a life surrounded by family and friends, who knew him for his generous spirit and unwavering support.

Marcell was known for his love of the outdoors, particularly enjoying deer and turkey hunting, gardening, and cooking up delightful meals for family gatherings. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, often found playing a game of Rook with loved ones, where laughter and camaraderie filled the air.

Marcell is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Cynthia Poynor of Water Valley, MS; his mother, Erma Poynor of Banner, MS; his children, Chrissy Davis of Bedford, TX, Michael Montgomery of Toccopolo, MS and Jason Sandifer of Memphis, TN; his brothers, Brice (Amanda) Poynor of Banner, MS, Dobbie (Krista) Poynor of Banner, MS, and Leonard Poynor of Banner, MS; his sister, Kathy Poynor (Riley) Harris of Banner, MS; and his beloved grandchildren, Codie Harris, Shirley Harris, Nicki Harris, Chloe Davis, and Peyton Sadoski. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.

Funeral services for Marcell will be held at the Paris Independent Methodist Church on August 4, 2025, with a public viewing beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM with Bro. Sammy Gosset officiating. He will be laid to rest at Poynor Family Cemetery in Banner, MS on the same day. All who knew Marcell are invited to celebrate his life and the many beautiful moments he shared with us.

Serving as pallbearers are Leonard Poynor, Dobbie Poynor, Brice Poynor, Jason Sandifer, Kaleb Poynor, and Codie Harris.

Marcell was preceded in death by: his father Eula Poynor and brother Ottis Poynor.
