Janice Williams Alexander, 78 (born October 10, 1946), went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 7, at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, TN. Before retiring, she was a valued employee of the Dillard’s company, where she exemplified the highest standards of dedication, dependability, and kindness, winning her many friends throughout her successful career. Janice was a faithful member of Christ Church in Bartlett, enjoyed listening to Gospel quartet music, and lovingly adopted every stray cat that turned up at her door.
Family meant everything to Janice, and those who love her find solace in the fact that she is now reunited with many her heart had so yearned to see again. Her husband, Steve Alexander, preceded her in death in 1969 at 25 years of age in a car accident just four weeks after their wedding. Janice’s parents, Lorette Moseley Williams and Col. Robert E. Williams, also awaited her heavenly arrival. And Nancy Williams Gillespie was no doubt the first in line to welcome her little sister, Janice, to the beautiful streets of Glory.
Janice is survived by her sister, Ann Germany of Alpharetta, GA, her brother Dr. Joseph Williams of Atlanta GA, her brother-in-law, Rodney Gillespie of Vardaman, MS, and her sisters-at-heart, Brenda McNeal of Memphis, TN, and Carolyn Davis of Vardaman. She also leaves behind one niece, Lea Gillespie Gant (Neil) of Blaine, TN, one nephew, Michael Gillespie (Lillie) of Vardaman, two great-nieces, Anna Elizabeth Gant of Blaine, TN, and Kinsey Belle Gillespie of Vardaman, and one great-nephew, John Macon Gillespie, also of Vardaman. Her nephew-at-heart Charley Davis and many cousins of the Moseley, Canon, Williams, and Gilder branches of the family will also miss Janice’s laughter, sense of humor, and comforting presence.
Receiving of friends will be held at Vardaman First Baptist Church on Friday, December 13, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Central Time. The funeral service, also at the church, will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at the Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Neil Gant and Bro. Robert Earl Alexander will officiate. Charlie Davis, Jefferson Gilder, John Macon Gillispie, Brent Harrell, Don Hardin and Gilder Skiles will serve as pallbearers with the Vardaman High School Class Of 1964 serving as honorary pallbearers.
Parker Memorial Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Alexander family during this time of loss and sadness.
