Jesse Rufus Stone, age 63, a beloved husband, loving dad, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 24, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. Rufus was born on August 6, 1961, in Vicksburg, MS, and lived his life with a passion for hard work, loving his family, and spoiling his grandchildren. He spent many years as a factory worker in the furniture and air conditioning industry. He was a member of Derma Baptist Church, an avid Ole Miss fan, and enjoyed watching wrestling.
Rufus leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Anita Gosa Stone, of Calhoun City, MS; his children Shannon Jean (Bryce) Fleming and Matthew Allan (Misty) Stone both of Calhoun City, MS. He was a proud grandfather to John Parker Stone, Jameson Cole Stone, Alice Ruth Fleming, and Deacon Smith Fleming, brothers: Cecil (Jessica) Stone and Dennis Stone, both of Bruce, MS, and Darrin Stone, of Pittsboro, MS, as well as his sister-in-law, Becky Stone, of Vardaman, MS, and brother-in-law, Mike (Joy) Gosa, of Big Creek, MS.
Rufus was preceded in death by his parents Jesse Stone and Willie Bernice Stone, and brothers Allan Stone and Roger Stone.
Visitation will be held at Derma Baptist Church on January 26, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Derma Baptist Church on January 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Big Creek, MS. Pallbearers will be: Brandon Baker, Bryce Fleming, Levi Gosa, Mike Gosa, John Parker Stone, and Matthew Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be: Alice Ruth Fleming, Deacon Smith Fleming, Jameson Cole Stone, work brothers: John and Tyrone, and a host of nieces and nephews.
