J. M. “Jam Up” McCormick, 84, of Bruce passed from this life on Tuesday, February 08, 2022, at his residence. Born on June 11, 1937, in Bruce, he was a son to the late Ira McCormick and Euris Tutor McCormick.
He spent an expansive sixty-seven years journeying through with his lovely bride, Virginia Green McCormick, by his side. The couple married at the young age of seventeen and beat the odds people had against their young love. The marriage not only brought life to two daughters but also a numerous amount of memories. He provided for his family by framing walls and cutting boards as a carpenter. When Jam Up didn’t have a tape measure in reach and Ole Miss wasn’t playing ball, he could be found undertaking a variety of activities. Using his knack for building and skills of precision he found joy in woodworking. However, when he wanted to relax, Jam Up spent time in the great outdoors from the anticipation of deer and rabbit hunting all the way to baiting a hook and casting a line fishing. As a member of Westside Baptist Church Jam Up placed his trust in the Lord by maintaining a relationship with Jesus Christ. Although he has departed from our presence, Jam Up’s memory will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.
He leaves behind an expansive family to continue walking down the path of life in his absence; wife, Virginia Green McCormick of Bruce; two daughters: Rhonda (Herbert) Dickson of Bruce; Debbie McCormick of Bruce; one brother, J.D. “Peanut” McCormick (Virginia) of Bruce; one sister, Bobbie Frizzell Watkins of Abbeville; three brothers-in-law: Wayne Green, Dale (Terry) Green, Charles York; four sisters-in-law: Louise McCormick, Jimmie Kay McCormick, Alice McCormick, and Francis Bennett; special niece, Emily Warren and many more cherrished nieces and nephews.
Jam Up was preceded in death by his parents, Ira McCormick and Euris Tutor McCormick; four brothers: Melvis McCormick, E.L “Bunky” McCormick, Ottis Wayne “Pop” McCormick, and Clovis McCormick; two sisters: Dot Harville, and Idell York; three brothers-in-law: Lefty Frizzell, Herbert Harville, Harvie Watkins, and Charles Bennett; one sister-in-law, Nora Green.
