John Edward Brasher, 70 of Bruce, Mississippi passed this earthly life on Monday, December 4, 2017 in Yalobusha County, MS. He was born Thursday, July 12, 1947 in Bruce, Mississippi. He was the son of the late Eron L. Brasher and the late Mary Margaret Daniels Brasher. He was a deacon at Bruce First Baptist Church. John had a heart of service to God, Country, family, friends, and his church and community. God gave him many talents and his desire was to share God’s love and mercy through those abilities. He was a past Fire Chief for Bruce Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Calhoun County Disaster Relief Team, honorably served our country in the U.S. Army, and volunteered countless hours assisting his friends and neighbors with all projects possible. He loved crappie fishing, deer hunting, duck hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. John was a successful entrepreneur with several businesses, including Brasher’s Home Furnishings, Brasher’s Mini Storage, and Money Connection.
Those left to honor his memory are is his wife of fifty years Sonia Golden Brasher of Bruce; two sons, Eddie Brasher "Sherry" of Bruce, MS and Michael Brasher "Rebecca Haryett" of Lafayette, LA; two sisters, Linda Collins-Franklin "Hugh" of Oxford, MS and Claudia Pickering "Glenn" of Vicksburg, MS; two grandchildren, Avery Curt Brasher and Erika Lea Brasher.
He was predeceased by his brother, Eron L. Brasher, Jr. of Starkville, MS, and sister, Betty Bobe, of Vincennes, IN.
A funeral service will be held on John and Sonia’s fiftieth wedding anniversary at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Daniel Hathorne and Dr. Curtis Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Bruce Cemetery, Bruce, MS. Pallbearers will be: Darrell Bobe, Eddie Brasher, Michael Brasher, Michael Brown, Ken Camp, Sput Deaton, Brian Maddox and Andy Stepp. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Members of Bruce Fire Department, Don Ball, James Hall, Miles Jeffrey, Gary Ledbetter, Bob Logan, David Mitchell, Robert Edward Oakley, Jesse Quillen, Ricky Vaughn and Dr. Harold Ward
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home, 476 Hwy 9N, Bruce, MS.
