John Allen Mcclure

John Allen McClure, 70, of Greenwood passed from this life on Sunday, June 7, 2021, at Indywood Glen Personal Care Home in Greenwood. He was brought into this world on December 8, 1950, by Ruth L. Stribling McClure Ivy and the late John Thomas McClure.

John Allen enlisted in United States Army where he dedicated six years of his life to protecting the liberties and freedoms of his fellow Americans. Upon the completion of his tour in the armed forces McClure enrolled in Delta State University. After many years of hitting the books and learning about the psychology of the human mind, John Allen graduated with a degree in psychology. He put his knowledge to work with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for an expansive thirty- five years before retiring. During his time working for the Department of Corrections he not only served the inmates of Parchman but also the inmates of the penitentiary at Tutwiler. Aside from his work life, John Allen found joy in time spent on the gun range target practicing. He had a special place in his heart for his four legged friends Ollie, Mollie, and Gabe. John Allen was a member of First Baptist Church of Clarksdale a place where he learned about the many wonders of the Lord.

He leaves behind a loving family to continue walking down the path of life in his absence: mother Ruth L. Stribling McClure Ivy of Greenwood, MS; two daughters: Jennifer McClure of Philadelphia, MS; and Meghan McClure of Philadelphia, MS; one sister Beverly (Paul) Barrentine of Greenwood, MS; one nephew Brent Barrentine; two great nephews: Logan Barrentine and Riley Barrentine.

He is preceded in death by his father,John Thomas McClure.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce. The funeral service remembering John Allen’s life will take place on Tuesday,  June 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Ryan Reed officiating.
