Joseph Melvin (Joe) Tunnell, 72, passed away on August 12, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Calhoun, in Calhoun City, MS. He was born on March 25, 1952, in Chickasaw County to the late Clyde Bradford Tunnell and Essie Opal Carter Tunnell.
Joe was the owner of Joe's Market from 1984-2009 and TNT Mini Market from 2014 until his retirement in 2024. When not working Joe could be found crappie fishing or hunting deer and rabbit. He was a member of Pearson Chapel Church of the Nazarene.
Joe is survived by his wife Bonnie Tunnell, of Bruce; sons: Joseph "Joe Boy" Melvin (Niki) Tunnell, Jr., of Bruce, Curtis (Paula) Tunnell, of Bruce, Kevin (Sissy) Tunnell, of Bruce, and Jock (Noel) Tunnell, of Bruce; daughters: Amelia (Devin) Fox, of Calhoun City and Leslie Ferguson, of Bruce; brothers: Steve Tunnell, of New Albany, Lamar (Brenda) Tunnell, of Houston, and Leonard Tunnell, of Houston; sisters Rose (Kenneth) Barnett, of Houston and Gail Brooks, of Houston; grandchildren: Josh Tunnell, Hope Tunnell High, Danielle Tunnell Thomas, Hillary Stacy, Tyler Kilcrease, Holden Stacy, Nick Tunnell, Caden Tunnell, Jace Tunnell, Kylee Fox, Jaten Tunnell, JP Ferguson, Haven Tunnell, and Hudson Tunnell; 5 great grandchildren; mother-in-law Erma Bryant, of Bruce; brother-in-law Barry (Kamai) Bryant, of Greybull, WY, and sister-in-law Betsy (Mark) Ritchie, of Pontotoc.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Essie Tunnell.
Visitation for Joe will be Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Bro. Scott Samuels and Bro. Kenneth Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers are Barry Bryant, JP Ferguson, Mark Ritchie, Holden Stacy, Caden Tunnell, Jaten Tunnell, Josh Tunnell, and Nick Tunnell. Honorary pallbearers will be David Barnett, Mac Burns, Lanny Harwell, Tyler Kilcrease, Glenn Lenard, Bill Rowsey, and Rodney Tedford.
