Juanice Kelly Logan, 95, of Bruce departed from this life on December 15, 2021, to claim her treasures that have been stored in Heaven. She graced this world with her presence on the summer day of June 26, 1926, as one of nine children born to the late John Monroe Kelly and Verda Thompson Kelly.
Juanice, a native of the Banner community, attended Banner School until she transferred to Bruce High School her freshman year. During her time at Bruce High School, she was best known for her skills on the basketball court. After her graduation in 1945, Juanice went on to Sunflower Junior College on a basketball scholarship where she not only attended classes and played basketball, but she also squeezed in the time to help coach a high school girls' team. After returning home she fell in love and married W. J. Logan. This union gave life to four children, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and countless memories made along the journey of life. Juanice was dedicated homemaker and during the 1980’s she was the owner of Logan’s Florist. Aside from her devotion to her family as a homemaker, she was very involved in the community and various clubs. Juanice served as the President and charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Bruce, President of the East Bruce Homemakers Club, President of the Calhoun County Extension Homemakers Club, and was a member of the Bruce Park Commission. She was also a member and past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star and Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls. However, she was most known for her role and attendance at Bruce High School sporting events especially as the president of the Bruce Mother's Club for all Bruce High School Athletics. In her free time Juanice found joy in quilting and crocheting; gifts that she not only donated to fundraisers but also gave to beloved family. When she was not stitching together a unique creation, she could be found cooking for family or baiting a hook and casting a line on a fishing adventure. As a God-fearing woman that paved the way for two preachers in the family, Juanice was member of First Baptist Church of Bruce and a charter member of Westside Baptist Church. Juanice did not simply pass away. She held the cure to death in her soul an active relationship with her Lord and Savior. Although she has departed from our presence, she has gone to rest in a sacred place free from sickness and the pains of age.
She leaves behind a loving close knit family to continue walking down the path of life in her absence: one son Darrell (Sandra) Logan of Bruce; one daughter Lee (Jimmy) Hubbard of Bruce; one daughter-in-law Shelia Logan of Bruce; five grandchildren: Brad (Melissa) Logan, Heather (Chad) Stewart, Chad (Kelly) Logan, James (Mallory) Robertson, and Jordan (Tyler) Hall; eight great-grandchildren: Logan Stewart, Lane Stewart, Luke Stewart, Evie Logan, Satch Logan, Sam Logan, Baxter Logan, and Lucy Hall.
She was preceded in death her husband W. J. Logan; her parents John Monroe Kelly and Verda Thompson Kelly; one son Satch Logan; one daughter Wanda Logan; three brothers: Charly Kelly, Wayne Kelly and Orlin Kelly; five sisters: Alice Barnett, Lona Barnett, Sallie Norwood, Ila Miles and Sadie Caldwell.
