Kenneth Edward Hodge, a beloved member of the Oxford community, will be fondly remembered for his dedication to serving others and his unwavering commitment to his family. Born on February 12, 1939, in Delay, MS, Kenneth passed away on August 17, 2024, in Oxford, MS, surrounded by his loved ones.
A graduate of Yocona High School, Kenneth was a proud member of the Class of 1957. He served in the Army, where he reached the rank of SP/5 before being honorably discharged on November 7, 1963. Following his military service, Kenneth embarked on a career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked diligently as a mail carrier until his retirement.
Kenneth was a dedicated member of the New El Bethel Baptist Church and actively participated in various community organizations, including the Lafayette County Fire Department, the O. D. Smith Masonic Lodge # 33, the Shriners, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his children Phyllis Hodge, Beverly (Blake) Giles, Jason (Cheryll Angel) Hodge, and Jimmie (Roe) Gregory, as well as his siblings, Judy Bowles, Marilyn (Jimmy) Davis, and David Hodge; grandchildren: Ken Allen, Hunter Allen, Bobby Allen, Jason Hodge Jr., Eli Gregory, Attelia Ruger, Kristie Helmes, Sarah Nelson, and Ricky Garrison; and nine great grandchildren.
To honor his memory, a public viewing will be held at the Parker Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 5:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at the Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm. with Bro. Bobby Snow and Bro. Ross Robertson officiating. Following the service, Kenneth will be laid to rest in Webb Cemetery. Bobby Allen, Hunter Allen, Ken Allen, Eli Gregory, Roe Gregory and Jason Hodge will serve as pallbearers; Jimmy Davis and the Members of O.D. Smith Masonic Lodge #33 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his father Herman Cecil Hodge, mother Delmer Ray Wilder Hodge, daughter Shelia Nelson, and sister Patricia Johnson.
