Kernal Pal "Goldie" Castleberry, a beloved brother, father, and pop, who departed this life on November 20, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on October 29, 1936 in Banner, MS to parents, Kernal Herman and Adell Greene Castleberry. Kernal lived a life filled with dedication and love for both his family and his passions.
Goldie spent his career as a skidder operator for R.E. Leachman Logging, where his hard work and commitment left a lasting legacy. He was not only known for his industrious spirit but also for his deep affection for the land and animals around him. His love for gardening, mechanical tinkering, and raising cattle showcased his connection to nature and his appreciation for the simple pleasures of life.
Goldie faithfully served in the National Guard during the Berlin Crisis, demonstrating courage, dedication, and a deep commitment to his country. His service remained a source of pride throughout his life, and he was honored to have stood ready during a pivotal moment in history.
A resident of Banner, Mississippi, Goldie's family was the cornerstone of his existence. He leaves behind cherished memories with his grandchildren, Craig (Deedy) Turner of Banner, MS, Jeff "Lucinda" Hunt of Dallas, TX, and Tracy Hunt of Houston, TX. His great-grandchildren, Tyler Turner, Jorja Turner, Channing Hunt, and Jayden Hunt, and one great great-grandchild, whom all brought great joy to their Pop's life. He is also survived by his brother, Tillman Castleberry of Collierville, TN, his daughter-in-law Elnora Castleberry of Banner, MS, and his son-in-law, Roger Turner of Derma, MS, as well as his special 1st cousin, Anne Ward.
Goldie was preceded in death by his wife; Sarah Harmon Castleberry, father; Kernal Herman Castleberry, mother, Adell Greene Castleberry, son, Timothy Castleberry, daughter, Sandy Turner, brother, Charles "Bub" Castleberry, and sister, Justine Stewart.
In honor of Goldie's life, a visitation will be held at Parker Memorial Funeral Home on November 22, 2025, beginning at 12:00 PM. With a funeral service to follow in the Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM with Bro. Will Turner officiating. Goldie will be laid to rest in Antioch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Dave Yarbrough, Rudy Ferguson, Lucas Ferguson, Corey Thweatt, Mack Thweatt, and Charles "Boo" Allen. Paul Gallagher will be an honorary pallbearer.
As we say our goodbyes, we invite all those who knew and loved Goldie to join us in remembering a man who embodied kindness, hard work, and a love for the simple joys of life.
