L W "Chick" Collins

Leslie Wayne Collins, known as “Chick” to his family and friends, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the age of 89. He was born in Calhoun County, January 4, 1924 to the late Jesse Leland and Jettie Valeria Kimsey Collins. He is the beloved father of Ava Jo Collins of New Orleans, LA and Dr. Steven Wayne Collins of Slidell, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 40 years, Geraldine Collins and all of his brothers and sisters.

He was a graduate of Ellard High School and attended both Wood Junior College, where he played basketball, and Ole Miss. He was a US Army Veteran serving on two tours during WWII.

Prior to retirement, he was a hardwood lumber inspector and previously ran “Collins Grocery” in Bruce. He was a member of the VFW and Concord Baptist Church. He found great pleasure and spent many hours gardening, hunting and fishing.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 5pm-8pm and the funeral service on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 2pm, both at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. Online condolences maybe made @ www.parkermemorialfuneralhomes.com
