Lavern Whiteside

Lavern Sanders Whiteside, 90, of Alpharetta, GA passed away August 12, 2024 at AccentCare Hospice in Cumming, GA. Born to cotton farmers, Ernest and Lillie Sanders, Lavern grew up in Old Town Community near Bruce, MS. Memories of childhood at Old Town Baptist Church, tales of Old Town lore, and stories of adventures with friends made up Lavern’s favorite conversations. To know Lavern was to know four things:  She loved God. She loved her family. She loved the Ole Miss Rebels, and she enjoyed a good laugh!
Lavern is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Curtis Sanders, husband, Jimmy Whiteside, and infant daughter, Rosemarie Whiteside. Survivors include one daughter, Scarlett Whiteside Nelson of Alpharetta, GA, one sister, Ann Downing of Nashville, TN, and many cousins whom she loved and spoke of often.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Saturday, August 17th at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with a memorial service immediately following. Flowers are appreciated, but Lavern was committed to her sister’s ministry, and requested that donations be made to Downing Ministries. www.anndowning.com
