Mamie Opal Turner Brown, of Vaiden, passed away December 26, 2018 at Smokey Moutain Rehabilitation Center in Waynesville, N.C.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 12 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at Midway Methodist Church on Carrol County rd. 31. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the chapel.
Opal was born to Ellis and Estelle Turner on November 23, 1928 in Cowpen, MS. She graduate of Bruce High School, of Wood C ollege in Mathiston, MS. and Delta State College in Cleveland, MS.
Opal was a teacher, gardener, writer, poet, and painter. She published three books: “Against the Darkness of Night”; “Every Little Soul”; and Borrowing Coal”.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Newberry Brown II; her son, Jerry Wayne Brown; a brother, Johnny Turner of Clarkson, MS,; and a great grandson, Korbin Brown.
She is survived by four children: Burrell Brown III of Ocean Springs (Wife, Vickie); Rachel Bolick of Eupora; Mike Brown of Duluth, Ga.; andTim Brown of Asheville, N.C.
Opal will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
