Martha Jo Cain Covington, 89, of Southaven departed from this life on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. Martha was born on February 16, 1933, in Banner, MS to Hollis and Ethel Cain. She had 8 siblings. On November 29, 1952, she married Robert Covington and they began their life together in Memphis. They raised their two daughters, Teresa and Kathy in Southaven, MS, and later moved back home to Banner, Ms.
Martha, (affectionately known as Mammaw/Grandma to her five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren) loved working in her garden and yard in Banner, Ms. She loved her family and was so loved by them. She always had an interesting story to tell and a smile on her face.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Hollis and Ethel, siblings Ruthell, Johnnie, Celestine, Charles, and Kenneth, and son-in-law Phillip Baker.
She leaves behind her daughters and son-in-law Teresa Baker of Southaven and Kathy and Billy Rich of Banner. Her grandchildren Lynsey Braggs (Ricky) of Hernando, Brandon Baker of Lovington, NM, Anna Cresswell (Jeremy) of Southaven, Brent Baker (Amanda) of Walls and Brad Baker (Tamila) of Hernando. Great-grandchildren Dakota Cresswell, Eli Braggs, Ashlyn Baker, Logan Baker, Cameron Baker, Ava Braggs, Lauren Baker, Evelyn Braggs, Luke Baker, Adrianna Rogers, Tyler Hewett, and Tori Hewett. Sisters Barbara Lantrip of Banner, Katie Goodwin of Banner, and Carolyn Hallman of Flora, and sister-in-law Eva Covington of Banner, along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 10:00 at Parker Funeral Home in Bruce. The funeral service will begin at 11:00, immediately followed by burial at Providence cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Baker, Brent Baker, Dakota Cresswell, Eli Braggs, Logan Baker, and Cameron Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Baker and Brandon Baker.
