Martha Nell Martin

Martha Nell Martin, 95, passed this earthly life on Thursday, March 20, 2024, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven.  She was born in Vardaman, August 21, 1928, to the late Bedford Forrest Spratlin and Pearl Hollingsworth Spratlin.

Martha Nell was a devoted member of Vardaman First Baptist Church where she participated in all church activities and especially enjoyed the church choir. She graduated from Vardaman High School class of 1945. She worked at Gulf States Ceramic Tile Company before retirement.  Martha Nell was a steward to her town and community and especially her family. She loved to cook for family and friends and to sew and garden.  In her quiet time, she could be found quilting, reading and studying her Bible, or reading her Sunday school lessons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bedford Forrest and Pearl Spratlin; her husband, Charles Fred Martin; her brother Morris Spratlin; and sisters: Ruth Sanderson, Gay Young, and Maggie Martin.

She is survived by her loving family a son John Forrest (Dr. Sherry) Martin, Indianapolis, IN; daughters: Charlsie Hendrix, Houston, TX, and Michelle Wright, Southaven, MS; 4 grandchildren: Martin Parker, Charles L. Parker, John R. (Caitlin) Martin, and Melissa (Brandon) Kiel; 5 great-grandchildren: Jennifer Strider, Buren Lee Kiel, Everette Kiel, Ada Kiel, and Benjamin Forrest Kiel.

A visitation will be Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 1:00 P. M. until 3:00 P. M. at Vardaman First Baptist Church.  Also, a service honoring Martha Nell's life will be Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Vardaman First Baptist Church beginning at 3:00 P. M. with Bro. Joey Hamilton and Bro. Whitney Casey officiating.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with James Marshall Casey, Justin Casey, Porter Casey, Alex Johnson, M. B. Martin, Dr. Jon Massey, Winfred Sanderson, Richard Young, and Robert Young serving as pallbearers.
