Mary Nell Harrelson

Mary Nell Hamilton Harrelson, 86, of Pittsboro, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at her home. She graced this world with her presence in Vardaman on December 15, 1935, as a daughter of the late Cecil Hamilton and Lillian Vanlandingham Hamilton.

Mary Nell, better known as Nell to her family and friends, was married to her loving husband Bro. William R Harrelson for many decades until his passing in November of 2013. She was a devoted homemaker and pastor’s wife that put the needs of her family before her own. When she wasn’t loving on her family, Nell could be found tending to her garden, especially to her beloved flowers. Above her hobbies and family, Nell adored her savior, Jesus Christ, where she worshiped Him at Mt. Comfort Baptist Church. Although she has gone to rest in a sacred place free from sickness; Nell will be profoundly missed by her loving family and friends.

She leaves behind a loving family to continue walking down the path of life in her absence; three sons: Jeff (Gail) Harrelson of Rockwood, Tennessee; Tim Harrelson of Houlka; Mark (Melissa) Harrelson of Vardaman; two daughters: Teresa Harrelson of Pittsboro; Laurie (Joe) Hedrick of Union; nineteen grandchildren: Shawn Harrelson, Miranda (Cody) Greybeal, Nathan (Amy) Harrelson, Chase (Shelby) Harrelson, Jamie Cagle, Tim Harrelson, Amber (Dex) Earp, Autumn (Jake) Samuell, Nicole (Will) Benefield, Jeff Harrelson, Will Harrelson, Laura Claire (Will) Livingston, Ashley Hawkins, Dallas (TJ) Gray, Corina Cannon, Tamra Hedrick, Chelsea Liccion, Brandy (Dan) Lauing, and Brittany (Kevin) Logan; forty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one more due in December.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. William R Harrelson; one daughter-in-law, Karen Harrelson; one grandson, DJ Hedrick; two brothers: Leroy Hamilton and Jim Hamilton.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 1, 2022, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Mt. Comfort Baptist Church. The funeral service celebrating her life will take place on Friday, July 1, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of Mt. Comfort Baptist Church with Bro. David Haggerty and Bro. Jacob Samuell officiating.

Dex Earp, Chauncey Harrelson, Will Harrelson, Tim Harrelson Jr, Cordell Hawkins, Tim Hawkins, Kevin Logan, and Greyson Prestage will carry her to rest in Mt. Comfort Cemetery. Jeff Harrelson, Mark Harrelson, Tim Harrelson, and Dan Lauing will serve as honorary pallbearers.
