Mary Yvonne May

Mary Yvonne May, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, peacefully passed away on March 5, 2025, her 83rd birthday, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories. Born on March 5, 1942, Mary spent her life in Bruce, MS, where she became an integral part of her community and family.

Mary graduated as the Salutatorian of her class at Bruce High School, where she demonstrated her leadership as Vice President and was recognized in Who's Who. She furthered her education at East Tennessee State University and embarked on a rewarding career as a secretary for Proctor & Gamble in Memphis, TN, where she dedicated many years of service.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mary was a nurturing presence to her family. She leaves behind her devoted sons, Reuben (Dee) May of Lancaster, SC, Gregory (Jennifer) May of Bruce, MS, and Daniel (Crissy) May of Bruce, MS. Her loving siblings Carolyn (Elon) Murphree of Memphis, TN, Peggy (Charlie) McCord of Banner, MS, and Paulette Hines of Bruce, MS, along with her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will forever hold her in their hearts. She treasured the time spent with her grandchildren—Jade, Vashelle, Ava, Zoey, Madison, Gauge, Cara, Chassidy, Dustin—and her great-grandchildren—Talon, Koe, Myles, Roper, and Jett. Each of them was a bright spot in her life, and she loved them deeply.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, James William Spradling, mother, Nadine Lazelle Newman Spradling, sisters, Kay Crigler, Nancy Spradling, Martha Bingham, and a son, Stuart May.

Mary's passions included cooking, reading, and attending church, often relishing holidays surrounded by her family. Her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

A public viewing will take place at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce, MS on March 14, 2025, at 1:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joey Hamilton officiating, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the incredible life of Mary Yvonne May. Mary will be laid to rest in Bruce Cemetery, with Daniel May, Dustin May, Gauge May, Gregory May, Reuben May and Rory Alexander serving as pallbearers.

As we reflect on Mary’s life, we remember her dedication to family, her unwavering spirit, and the love she shared with everyone around her. May her memory continue to inspire and guide us all.
