Mary "Arlene" Mulkey Castleberry, 91, died on February 19, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was born on August 5, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, MO, to Estell and Ercell Mulkey. She was the oldest of 10 children. She was married to Charles (Bub) Castleberry until his passing in 2013.
Arlene began her career in the kitchen of the University of Michigan's Medical School Hospital and upon retirement and move back to Bruce she found a second career in the cafeteria of Bruce High School.
She was an active and faithful member of Banner Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World.
Arlene is survived by her son Shane (Riz) Castleberry of Grenada; daughter Sherry (Landon) Carter of Banner; grandchildren: Taylor Castleberry, Lucas Ferguson, Brooke Castleberry, Rudy Ferguson, Easton Castleberry, Bethany LaValley, Wiley Ferguson, Tyler Carter, and Emily Carter; great-grandchildren: Brentley Thornton, Bryler Thornton, and Hudson Carter; sisters: Betty Turner of Bruce, Molly Bush of Mendenhall, and Dianne Shows of Florence; and brother Richard Mulkey of Bruce.
She was preceded in death by her parents Estell and Ercell Mulkey; husband Charles "Bub" Castleberry; brothers: Jimmy Mulkey, Bill Mulkey, and Jerry Mulkey; sisters: Shirley Nell Mulkey, Jeanette Melton, and Sara Swink; and several beloved nieces/nephews, friends, and family.
Visitation for Arlene will be Tuesday, February 22, 2022, from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel with Bro. Vincent Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Banner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Wiley Ferguson, Scott Ledbetter, Andy Mulkey, Joe Mulkey, Mitchell Neil Mulkey, Sean Mulkey, Ciro Salinas, and Craig Turner.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Banner Cemetery, C/O Gary Ledbetter, 217 County Road 267, Bruce, MS 38915.
