Bruce, MS – Matelon Eugene Chrestman, 98, passed this earthly life Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born September 5, 1919 in Sarpeta to the late parents of Emsley Chrestman and Maggie Lowe Chrestman. Matelon was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist church and a Mason. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart Good Conduct and Victory Medal. He was a member of the D.A.V., V.F.W. and The American Legion. Matelon was devoted to his family, friends, God and country. He was unselfish and helpful to all he came into contact with.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lorette Ferguson Chrestman, brothers, Wayne Chrestman, Raymond Chrestman, Elmo Chrestman, Ruben Chrestman, Jimmy Chrestman and his sisters Grace Waits and Irene Chrestman.
He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and friends who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kevin Chrestman and Bro. Joey Hamilton officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jim Beckett, Jerry Cain, Billy Van Clark, Charles Chrestman, Gale Chrestman, Dr. Bruce Longest, Ed Moorhead, Jr. and Ricky Joe White. Honorary pallbearers are Ken Akins, Wade Bryant, Craig Chrestman, Fred Chrestman, Jimmy "Jello" Chrestman, Charles Herring, A. D. Spratlin, Billy Smith, Mark Tedford and Paul Waits.
