Max McKibben
Mr. Dana Max McKibben, 87, of Bruce, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Baptist Memorial  Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford following a brief illness.
He was born March 24, 1922, in Calhoun County to Dana Albert and Joyce Johnson McKibben. He was a member of Parker Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran. He spent most of his life as a farmer working with his wife, Cozette, on their farm west of Bruce.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman having been featured in several hunting and fishing publications in the Southeast. An accomplished turkey hunter, he had been recognized on numerous occasions by the National Wild Turkey Federation for his commitment to preserving and maintaining the turkey population in Mississippi.  He bagged the first legal turkey in Calhoun County in the 1970s and subsequently bagged the limit each year since, including 2009. Aside from hunting and fishing, summer-time was the highlight of each year when he was able to share vegetables from his garden to friends and family both far and near.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with the Rev. Billy Hill, the Rev. Forrest Poindexter and the Rev. Paul Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the Bruce Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5–7 tonight at the funeral home.
Survivors include three sons, Dana McKibben (Claudia) and Kenny McKibben (Jeannie), both of Oxford, and Mike McKibben (Gail) of Bruce; two sisters, Ruth Williams of Waynesboro, N.C., and Martha Joyce Smith of Carroll County; four granddaughters, Heather Sullivan, Jessica Haltom, Rebecca Hurt and Elizabeth McKibben; one grandson, Dusty McKibben; four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Eddie Morgan of Starkville and sister-in-law, Elaine Borland of Indianola, Iowa.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cozette Morgan McKibben on Jan. 20, 2009; and a sister, Annie Kate Kenwright.
