Maxine Head Crago, age 90, of Birmingham (Center Point), Alabama passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Maxine was born April 11, 1928 in Pollok, Texas to the late Bessie Bell and John Roy Head.
Maxine was preceded in passing by her spouse of over 33 years, Arthur Gene Crago and her 12 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son Chuck Crago and his wife Patricia; her grandsons Charlie Crago, Scott Crago and his wife Mary, Connor Crago, and Carson Crago; her great-grandson Morgan Crago; and innumerable nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Maxine was born in Pollok, Texas and grew up in Mississippi. After attending Hinds Junior College for a year at the age of 17, Maxine began her career as a teacher. She was an elementary school teacher for over 42 years. She taught students in New Mexico, Mississippi, and Alabama throughout her career. Maxine was a lifelong learner who valued knowledge. She also loved traveling, painting, and gardening. Maxine was a past president for the Alabama Guild of Decorative Artists, and she was an active member of the organization for decades. Maxine will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
A Graveside Service for Maxine will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Old Providence Cemetery in Bruce, Mississippi. The family will have a memorial service in celebration of Maxine's life at a later date to be announced.
