Michael Lee Covington

Michael Lee Covington, 72, of Bruce passed away March 30, 2022, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN, surrounded by his children. He was born on October 30, 1949, in Bruce, MS, to the late James Lee and Dora Pearl Hallum Covington. He was the grandson of the late C.H. and Verlie Covington and the late Raymond and Ethel Hallum.

Mike graduated from Bruce High School where he excelled in basketball and graduated from Northwest Community College where he received an Associate of Arts degree. He served his country by joining the National Guard and was employed at Heatcraft in Grenada, MS.

Mike, at an early age was influenced by music and played in his high school band called “The Sound of Tyme” with his best friend Duck Drake. In his spare time Mike loved to go catfishing and deer hunt in the winter, watch sports, and spend time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Dora Covington and his niece Dana Lynn Brown.

He is survived by his brother Rodney (Brenda) Covington of Nesbit, MS; two daughters Kimberly (Michael) Smith of Bruce, MS, and Heather Bandy of Southaven, MS; son Brian Covington of Southaven, MS; his former wife and friend, Tashia King of Southaven, MS; grandchildren: Danielle Covington, Bryce VanderHook, Timothy VanderHook, Collin VanderHook, Jade Chappel, Jacob Chappel, Kayla Covington, and Hailey Covington and ten great grandchildren.

Visitation for Mike will be held Sunday, April 3, 2022, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce.  The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Bro. Darrell Logan officiating.
