Micheal Anthony Shields, 65, of Banner cast his line for the shores of Heaven Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at his home in the Drivers Flat Community. He was born on August 28, 1955, in Leland, Mississippi to the late Wayford Shields and Lodie Peeples Shields.
Micheal, known by his friends and family as Mike, caught the attention of an outspoken yet kindhearted lady by the name of Peggy Blackburn and married her. The couple spent forty-seven years together and gave life to four children and ten grandchildren all wrapped in an immeasurable number of memories. He spent an expansive thirty- three and one-half years of his life working for the Weyerhauser Corporation before retiring and moving on to the Winchester Corporation for an additional eight years of work. Aside from his work and family life Mike had a passion for fishing, and could be found trolling or floating on the water in hopes of catching crappie. With a skill for woodworking, he was known for creating intricate walking sticks along with a variety of crafts. Mike lived upon the level and by the square as an active member of the Antioch Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Drivers Flat Baptist Church a place where he learned about the many wonders of the Lord.
Mike leaves behind an expansive family to continue walking down the path of life in his absence: wife Peggy Blackburn Shields; four daughters: Wendy (Bryan) Roberts of Banner; Misty (Perry) Cullins of Calhoun City; Gayle (Clint) Melton of Bruce; and Dawn Shields of Bruce; nine grandchildren: Ethan Barnett, Dolton Gordon, Jacob McCammon, Adam McCammon, Micah McCammon, Mikey Roberts, Alyssa Barnett, Joni Barnett, and Cooper Melton; two great grandchildren; and one brother Loyd Mann.
He is preceded in death by his parents Wayford Shields and Lodie Peeples Shields; one grandchild, Lacey McCammon; two brothers: Billy David Shields and Freddy Wayne Shields and a son-in-law, Flash Gordon.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 11, 2021, from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce.
The funeral service remembering Michael's life will take place on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. David Westmoreland and Bro. Jon Stewart officiating. Ethan Barnett, Dolton Gordon, Jacob McCammon, Adam McCammon, Micah McCammon, Mikey Roberts, and the Antioch Masonic Lodge will carry Mike to rest in Spring Creek Cemetery.
