Opal Langston Gordon, 103, passed this earthly life to gain her heavenly peace Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Floyd Dyer Nursing Home in Houston. MS. She was born in Calhoun County on April 7, 1921, to the late Gilbert Lee Langston and Pearl Edna Hicks Langston.
Opal was a dedicated and faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She retired from Kellwood Garment Company after working there for over 31 years. She loved games, bingo, puzzle books, crafts, sewing, and embroidery. But most of all she was proud of her family and church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert Lee Langston and Pearl Edna Hicks Langston; husband Henry Britten Gordon; son James Britten Gordon; sisters Margaret Winter and Melba Winter; brother James Herbert Langston and grandchild Tommy Britten Gordon.
Those left to cherish Opal’s memory are her daughter Linda Kay (Robert) Wiggs, of Vardaman, MS; son T. C. Gordon, of Vardaman, MS; sister Wanda Shumpert, of Fulton, MS; daughter-in-law, Lori Gordon, Vardaman and grandchildren: James Finn, Angie Fowler, Ernie Gordon, Mitchell Gordon, Gail Haire, Tommy Gordon, and Melissa Ann Aitkins; 17 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church beginning at 1:00 PM and a funeral honoring Opal’s life will begin at 2:00 PM with Bro. Jim Vernon officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Akins, James Finn, Sam Fowler, Ernie Gordon, Thomas Gordon, Britten Haire, and Keith Haire.
