Pittsboro, MS- Richard Earl Vanlandingham, 81, entered his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS. He was born August 12, 1936 in Calhoun County to the late parents of Claxton and Lillian Parker Vanlandingham.
Richard served his county in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He was a retired saw filer and truck driver. He was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church where he truly loved worshiping with his church family, family and grandchildren. Richard lived by example and the teachings of Philippians 4:13 ” I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”. He was an avid NASCAR fan. His favorite times in life was watching NASCAR races, gospel singing, eating popcorn, watching his favorite western movies and enjoying time with his family and trips to Hardy Arkansas.
Richard's favorite quote was "if you are on time you are not late and if you are late you are not on time". He lived by this quote daily.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charlie Vanlandingham and a sister, Nell Crocker.
Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 53 years, Helen Blackwelder Vanlandingham, Pittsboro, MS; a daughter, Christie Story “Joey”, Bruce, MS; a son, Charlie Frank Vanlandingham, Pittsboro, MS; a sister, Margaret Bailey “Lewis”, Derma, MS; and four grandchildren, Savanah Vanlandingham, Dakota Vanlandingham, Kristen Vanlandingham and Kennedy Story.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 20, 2018 P.M. from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home chapel with Bro. Paul Lowe officiating. Burial will be in Bruce Cemetery
Pallbearers will be: Perry Bailey, Sonny Bailey, Bob Brown, Rob Langston, Scott Ledbetter and Charlie Vanlandingham.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Coffee Shop Crew where he enjoyed fellowship with his friends, told tales of old and discussed current events of the day.
