Robert Dennis Howell

Dennis Howell passed away at the age of 84 at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from Houlka High School and attending Itawamba Community College, he married Virginia Ann Murphree. Just 2 short weeks later, he received his draft papers. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Afterwards he returned to Memphis, TN and began his career at Smith Corona Marchant. Later, he started his own business- Southern Business Machines / Systems - where he continued for 38 years until he retired.

Dennis was a former member of Carriage Hills Baptist Church. He served as Deacon, member of the choir and on various committees for 33 years. Currently, he served as a member of Tyro Baptist Church. He enjoyed the great outdoors spending his time with nature by playing golf, gardening, hunting, fishing and watching sports with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Ann Murphree Howell; his son Steve Howell (Lynn); his daughter Pam Pegram (Tom); his son Scott Howell (Heather); his grandchildren Jennifer Wilburn (Andee), Blake Howell (Sara Beth), Jessica Stevens (Cam), Megan Littlejohn (Tyler), Colby Hall (Hanna), Jake Howell and Jonathan Howell; and his 12 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Reidie Douglas; one brother Lee Howell and two sisters Sylvia Clark and Muriel Herndon; and his great grandson, Woods Hall.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday September 2, 2020 at 2:00 pm in Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel Bruce, MS. with Bro. Steve Howell, Bro. James Lewis and Bro. Philip Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home. Dennis will be laid to rest in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Colby Hall, Blake Howell, Jake Howell, Jonathan Howell, Tyler Littlejohn, Cam Stevens and Andee Wilburn will carry Dennis to his final resting place.
