Robert Edward Long

R obert Edward Long, 73, of Bruce passed from this life suddenly on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at his home. Born on February 16, 1947, in Bruce, Eddie was a son to the late John D. Long and Hazel Winter Long.

Edward, known by his family and friends as Eddie, stood ready for the call to action during his twelve years of dedication to the Mississippi National Guard. Aside from his National Guard career, Eddie spent many seasons of his life in the great outdoors operating heavy equipment for Lovorn Logging. Eddie not only worked outdoors but he also spent most of his spare time outdoors. As an avid hunter, he not only enjoyed the serene atmosphere surrounding a deer hunt but also the thrill of duck hunting. When Eddie didn’t have his rifle or shotgun strapped to his shoulder he could be found rounding up cattle to feed. Eddie, a member of Lantrip Baptist Church, believed in the promise of eternal life and placed his hope in the Lord. Though Eddie has gone to a place far better than we can understand his presence will be deeply missed.

Eddie leaves behind a loving family to carry his fond memory in their hearts: devoted wife, Evelyn Long of Bruce; three daughters: Carla (Jerry) Rutherford of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; Amy (Elvis Wade) Hillhouse of Bruce, Mississippi; Paige Stewart of Bruce, Mississippi; eight grandchildren: Alex( Kyle) Easley, Zack (Lexi) Kimbrough, Cole (Lexi) Hillhouse, Layton Morgan, Austin (Kaylee) Hillhouse, J.P. Stewart, Jordan Stewart, and Mason Rutherford; five great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Long and Hazel Winter Long and one sister Nancy Ann Miller.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at Lantrip Baptist Church from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. The funeral service remembering Eddie’s life will take place in the Sanctuary of Lantrip Baptist Church on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at 3:00 PM with Bro. Robert Earl Alexander and Bro. Joey Hamilton officiating. Austin Hillhouse, Cole Hillhouse, Zack Kimbrough, Carlton Leachman, Layton Morgan, Jeff Poynor, Mason Rutherford, and J.P. Stewart will carry Eddie to rest in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
