Sammy Red, 62, passed away suddenly at home in Calhoun City, MS surrounded by God’s nature on Monday, October 22, 2024. He was born September 18, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Randolph Red and Rose Etter Sowell Red.
Sammy was a member of Flaglake Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and old cars. He could be found working on ATV’s and doing various other mechanic work.
He was preceded in death by his parents Randolph Red and Rose Etter Sowell Red; stepmother Katherine Pruitt Red; daughter Sylvia Lynn Red; and brothers James Hickey and Timothy Hickey.
Those left to cherish Sammy’s memory are his wife Valerie Newman Red of Calhoun City, MS; daughters Emily Hope Red (Clay) Sullinger of Coldwater, MS and Savannah Sam Red (P.J.) Dover of Senatobia, MS; sisters: Edith Ann Gant of Senatobia, MS; Laura Viola Moore of Batesville, MS; and Tammy Wynette Red of Senatobia, MS; brothers: Anthony Lamar Red of Batesville, MS; Michael Hickey of Batesville, MS; and grandchildren: Sadie Lou Johnson, Linleigh Ann Dover, and Harleigh Gray Dover.
Visitation for Sammy will be Thursday, September 24, 2024, at Flaglake Baptist Church in Sarah, MS from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. A funeral honoring Sammy’s life will also be Thursday at Flaglake Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Jim Brown and Bro. Jody Boling officiating. Burial will follow in Flaglake Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Babb, Jon Daniel, P. J. Dover, Randy Gant, Jr., Austin Red, Jeremy Red, Randall Red, and Clay Sullinger. Honorary Pallbearers are James Frizzell, Randy Gant, Michael Hickey, Barry Moore, Andy Red, and Ralph Red.
