Sarah Nell Lafayette White Watkins, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on November 4, 1936, in the heart of Mississippi, Sarah's life was a tapestry woven with love, community, and resilience. She made her home in Calhoun City, MS, where she became an integral part of the fabric of her community.
A dedicated member of the Calhoun City First Baptist Church, Sarah's faith guided her throughout her life. Prior to her service there, she was an active member of the Noxapater United Methodist Church, where she found joy and fellowship among her peers. Sarah was also a proud participant in the Noxapater Garden Club, where her love for nature blossomed alongside her cherished friendships.
Sarah's passion for cooking was renowned among her family and friends, as she delighted in bringing people together through her meals. Her warmth extended to her beloved cat, Sambo, who brought her endless companionship. Above all, Sarah's deepest love was reserved for her family. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Edwin) White Parker of Calhoun City, MS, and Melinda White Leachman of Calhoun City, MS, Step-sons, Thad (AC) Watkins of Hoover, AL, Everette Watkins of Key West, FL, brother, Charles (Barbara) Lafayette of Calhoun City and her cherished grandchildren: Travis (Beth) England, Tracy (Rusty) King, Lenon England, Andi (Chris) Dunn, Martin (Amy) White, Bradley (Nidia) White, Sara (Garrett) Wester, Jace Leachman, Lacy (John) Herrington, Thad (Haylee) Watkins Jr, and Patrick Watkins. along with fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren and special caregiver and friend, Christine Clements.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Watkins, father, William Lafayette, mother, Sarah Spencer Lafayette, son, Jimmy Ray White, sisters, Monette Parks and Annie Lee Brown, brothers, Tommy Lafayette, Dennis Lafayette, Winton Lafayette.
Family and friends are invited to honor Sarah's remarkable life and legacy. A public viewing will take place at the Calhoun City First Baptist Church on February 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM, allowing loved ones to reflect on the memories shared with her. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the same location with Dr. Chad Logan and Bro. Garrett Wester officiating. Jordan England, Lenon England, Travis England, Rusty King, Jace Leachman, Garrett Wester, Bradley White, and Martin White will serve as pallbearers. Rodney Brown, James Cannon, Eddie Wayne Lafayette, Ritchie Lafayette, and Harold Moorehead will serve as honorary pallbearers. Sarah Nell will be laid to rest in Poplar Springs Cemetery.
