Scottie Hal Hughes, 80, passed this earthly life at his home on Saturday, April 10, 2021, after an extended illness. He was born February 7, 1941, in Bruce to the late Luther Burke Hughes and Katie Lorene Miller Hughes.
Scottie was a deacon and active member of Victory Baptist Church. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser Company after devoting 34 years to work in the lumber industry as a maintenance supervisor. Scottie enjoyed yard work and especially his daylily collection. He was an avid collector of antiques; he especially enjoyed his jar collection and had a love for antique car memorabilia.
Those left to honor his memory are his daughter Gloria (Jay) Horton, of Coffeeville, MS; sons Chris Hughes, of Bruce, MS, and Jeff (Patricia) Hughes, of Gore Springs, MS; sister Patsy Austin, of Bruce, MS; brother Jimmy (Joyce) Hughes, of Bruce, MS; 4 grandchildren: Shanna (Rob) Taylor, of Brookland, AR; Brad (Dallas) Hughes, of New Albany, MS; Ray (Lori) Schmitz III, of Coffeeville, MS; and Brandon Hughes, of Nashville, TN; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Katie Hughes and his wife Shirley Ann Austin Hughes.
Visitation will be Monday, April 12, 2021, from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. A service honoring Scottie’s life will be Monday, April 12, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in Memory Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be Thomas Earl Goodson, Brandon Hughes, Brian Hughes, Brad Hughes, Tyler Lester, Bill Love, Ray Schmitz, III, and Rob Taylor.
