Mrs. Thelma Jane Cherry, 86, departed for Heaven on the evening of July 23, 2019 at her home in Houston. She was born in Vardaman on February 14, 1933 to the late Snyder and Eva Simmons Johnson. She married her love David Cherry on February 17, 1951, and the two spent 68 years together filled with children and many precious memories.
Thelma was strong woman that carried a variety of skills and wore many hats through her 86 years on this Earth. Thelma was a hardworking woman that hardly had an idle hand. She made a living turning wood as a lathe operator first, at Dyer Wood Turning, then at Moss Woodworking where she ultimately retired. When not running her lathe, Thelma could be found on the farm alongside her husband providing for her family. She might have been a hard worker but she still found time to raise seven children in a Christian home. When Thelma had the time she loved cooking, sewing, gardening, and keeping up with the world on her i Pad. She was an faithful member of Faith Bible Church where she worshipped her Lord and Savior.
Thelma leaves behind an expansive family to carry her memory; Husband, David E Cherry; Three Sons; David L Cherry, Johnny (Brenda) Cherry , Max (Jennifer) Cherry; Four Daughters, Angela (Stan) Long, Audrey Hamblin, Janice (Odis) Webster, Vicki (Travis) Sanders; One Brother, Albert Luther Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents Snyder and Eva Simmons Johnson; Three Brothers, Carl Johnson, David Johnson, and Raleigh Johnson; Four Sisters, Ellen Barker, Fern Storment, Lula Mae Walls, and Pearl Crowford.
A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday July 25,2019 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman with a visitation one hour prior to the service .Bro. Johnny Cherry will be officiating the funeral service. Interment will be at Elzey Cemetery in Vardaman, MS. Pallbearers are James Chenault, David L. Cherry, Gabe Cherry, Max Cherry, Stan Long, Travis Sanders, Christopher Washington, And Jamie Webster.
